The Samsung F480 seems to be a pretty popular handset, and Samsung has decided to make hay while the sun shines by offering yet another version of the F480 known as La Fleur ("the flower" if you don't speak French). Apart from the external cosmetic changes, everything else within remains the same. If your girlfriend have been pestering you (or rather, dropping hints) for a new cell phone, what better way than to surprise her this Valentine's Day than with this lovey dovey Samsung F480 La Fleur? It will be out in Russia and several other European countries, with no word on pricing as at press time.

Nokia Locate Sensor debuts at CES

LAS VEGAS, USA - Nokia Research kept this one quiet - Nokia Locate Sensor can help you find lost keys, phones, bags, purses or anything you’re likely to need right before you rush out the door. Revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show, it’s currently a project kicking around the labs at the Nokia Research Centre, but it’s an interesting one.
First, quick explanation. The sensor is a tiny device, no bigger than a small thumb. It attaches to whatever you’d like to attach it to and communicates with your phone wirelessly (though we’re not totally certain how, just yet - there’s no official release so we only know what’s been reported so far). Drop whatever has the tag attached and your phone will alert you, via a software app that sits on your phone, and help you find the object, provided you’re within 100 meters of it (probably not good for speed boat jaunts then).
The system also works the other way around, so you could have the sensor on your person, and if you get separated from your device, an alarm will sound to let you know. Support for 100 individual sensors is provided by the app and each sensor has enough power to last 18 months before it runs out of juice.
This is all conceptual right now, albeit a working prototype rather than pie in the sky idea. Although I haven’t seen it in the flesh, I’m not sure if I like the idea or not. Something to help me find stuff before I rush out the door would be good - particularly for my wife - but I’m not sure if, practically, this would do the trick. It seems to have more in common with suddenly losing things, from what I can tell.

The Nokia 5800 NAM is back with updated firmware v20 and returned to the sales floor at the US flagships. Those who pre-ordered online should be receiving theirs in 1-2 weeks.

We’re not sure when the v20 firmware will be available for those who currently have the Nokia 5800 NAM purchased from other stores. We’re also not sure whether the update will indeed fix the reported 3G issues

Nokia has launched three new mobile phones designed to please both the IT department and the business and mobile email userThe E60, E61 and E70 are the first of the E-series and will be available in the first quarter of 2006. They run on Symbian operating systems and will work on GSM and 3G networks. They can also link to WLANs using Bluetooth and infrared. According to Nokia they are easy for IT departments to manage security settings, corporate apps and data.
Nokia said: "when developing these devices, two clear new trends emerged: the need for IT departments to have a secure and manageable platform, and the need for devices to support a variety of employee preferences and different working styles."
The E61, which looks like a PDA, has a full keyboard and joystick and will support many email clients including BlackBerry Connect, Goodlink, Seven Mobile Mail and Visto Mobile. Visto said the phones: "will meet the needs of business end users and the IT professionals that support them."
The E70 has a fold-out butterfly keyboard, full colour screen which can handle email and basic editing.

There’s not a lot of things we don’t know about the upcoming full touch screen handset.
All the specs of have been leaked eons ago, together with photoshop renderings and even live pics.
So there’s not much to do now but to sit and wait until October 02, the rumored date of the official Nokia Tube launch.
Still, today has got their hands on what looks to be the first official press pic of Nokia 5800 Xpress Music phone. And this gives me an excuse to post it here and recap what we already know about Nokia 5800 Tube:

To celebrate the 20th birthday,Nokia development and the research center revealed Aeon, a prototype of telephone on tactile surface. Aeon innovates on the level of its external surface, entirely tactile, leaving apparaitre a traditional keyboard of mobile telephone.

Nokia came up with two announces. First one is about ‘ Nokia Comes With Music’, a program that allows you to buy a Nokia device with a year of unlimited access to millions of tracks from a range of great artists.
The second announcement was about the new eco-friendly 3110 Evolve. This mobile device features bio-covers made from more than 50% renewable material. It is packaged in a small bundle made of 60% recycled content and it comes with Nokia’s most energy efficient charger yet, using 94% less energy than the Energy Star requirements.Nokia’s 3110 Evolve looks like the 3110 classic. It features a 1.3-megapixel cam, FM radio, and a tri-band GSM radio.
No word on pricing or availability yet.

Novell's Shaking Things Up
Many changes have been occurring at Novell over the past couple of weeks, including the naming of a for more than 10% of its staff. Novell also has said it will focus its efforts on the two areas the company believes have the most growth potential--Linux and identity. These moves are part of an overall company restructuring that hopes to cut costs and raise profitability in the coming fiscal quarters.
As part of the company's decision to focus more of its work on Linux, Novell also announced that future releases in both the SLES (SuSE Linux Enterprise Server) and Novell Linux Desktop line will feature For now, KDE will continue to be supported on these product lines, but this announcement does suggest that Novell is moving in the direction of supporting only one desktop environment, a move many distributions have been considering.

Mandriva, formerly the Mandrake Linux distribution, that Mandriva 2006 now is available. Mandriva is a popular Linux distribution, especially among new Linux users, because it is easy to install and use. New features for the 2006 release include the Kat desktop search tool; support for Centrino mobile technology; Skype, software for making free voice calls over the Internet; an interactive firewall; and an auto-installation server. Mandriva 2006 is available by download or in a box in three versions, including one designed specifically for new Linux users, Discovery/Lx.
Although Mandriva currently is not available pre-installed on a laptop from any major vendors, DesktopLinux.com notes that Mandriva is available on . Perhaps the full support of Centrino in the Mandriva 2006 release indicates more laptop vendors will be offering Mandriva as a pre-install option in the future.

Nokia has already done a "greener" phone with the Nokia 3110 Evolve model, but it also has a "futuristic Nokia Eco Sensor Concept" phone, reports It says:
Nokia Eco Sensor concept includes a wearable sensor unit that will house a number of optional sensors to monitor environment, health and local weather conditions, a dedicated mobile phone and a set of dedicated mobile software applications and services. The carrying strap made from solar cells will power the sensor unit and all the devices will "talk" to each other via low power near field radio technologies.
Concept phones are like concept cars: not designed for production. But the Eco shows the sort of things Nokia is considering for future products. And with the baby boomer population now entering old age, it's probably right on the money with the idea of incorporating health monitoring.

"LinkedIn, an Internet social network for professionals, will open up its service on Monday to outside software developers, starting with BusinessWeek magazine, to transform itself from an online contacts and referral database into an indispensable daily tool for business users," reports
LinkedIn's "Intelligent Applications platform program" lets developers create software for the service, and supports OpenSocial, but applications have to be approved. Reuters says:
The partnership with McGraw-Hill Co's BusinessWeek will link keywords, such as company names, to the LinkedIn service. Visitors to the BusinessWeek site, who place their mouse pointers over certain keywords will trigger a pop-up box detailing how many of their LinkedIn contacts are related to the company or keyword.

According to rumors, Philips will release the Xenium X810 in China as a successor to the previously released Xenium X800. All these initiatives sum-up into not a much more then a PR vaporware, but the Greenpeace report was also mainly a PR issue for Nokia. So let the Finnish “green” PR offensive continue. We are getting some pretty nice pictures of possible future phone designs, at least.
And today we are treated with one more interesting “green” phone concept – Nokia Morph

The main idea behind Nokia Morph concept phone is the use of nanotechnology based flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces. These materials should enable Nokia to produce a mobile device that “…might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes”.
Different shaped devices you see in the picture, is actually the same one mobile handset, that transforms itself into the concrete shape according to the user needs.
The concept was developed by Nokia research center in cooperation with Cambridge University and is on display at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
